Many people are surprised to learn that acupuncturists spend several years in the classroom and clinical training, learning about healthcare from Eastern and Western medicine perspectives, before they can get their license. In Pennsylvania, we are licensed through the State Board of Medicine.
I spent three years—over 2,400 hours— at The Won Institute of Graduate Studies, earning my Master of Acupuncture Studies. I worked hard and earned my degree With Distinction. My time included:
Over 600 hours in clinical internship
270 hours in clinical training
840 hours learning theory, diagnosis and treatment techniques
450 hours studying Western Biomedicine
More than 100 hours in meditation and Buddhism studies
And, we learned over 400 acupuncture points!
I was fortunate to have had some incredible mentors and teachers during my training. I learned from some of the best acupuncturists around, and I am grateful beyond measure for everything they have taught me. Through their generosity, I have learned to incorporate a variety of styles into my practice including Traditional Chinese Medicine, Five Element, Acupuncture Physical Medicine, and Orthopedic needling.
I am passionate about learning, teaching, researching new information, and above all, helping people. My extensive training has prepared me to help you as a healthcare practitioner.
