Acupuncture helps digestion

If you have digestive symptoms, you aren’t alone.  Many people have at least one digestive issue.  According to the NIH:

  • 20% or more of Americans suffer from IBS

  • Over 4 million Americans have frequent constipation

  • 7% of Americans have chronic diarrhea

  • Nearly 30% of Americans suffer from GERD

Acupuncturists ask a lot of questions about digestion, because we know you may be suffering but might not want to talk about it.  It may feel a little embarrassing at first, but the more we know, the more we can help you.  So we’ll ask about how often you go, whether it is easy or difficult for your, how much there is, what color.  We want to know if you are bloated, gassy, belching, nauseous, vomiting, have a weird taste in your mouth, the foods you crave, the things you like to eat—and all the things you may not say out loud to other people.  It helps us to pinpoint the right treatment approach for you.

Acupuncture has been shown to be effective for a range of digestive symptoms.  We may include moxa and cupping in your treatments, and may make a couple of suggestions for things to add to your diet to help you therapeutically.

Ultimately, my goal is to help you come back into balance overall.  Treating your digestive symptoms will likely also help with other symptoms, too.  Things like sleep, irritability, overthinking, worry, cloudy thinking, nasal congestion, being too hot or too cold all the time—these may tie in to what’s happening in your digestive tract.

Schedule your appointment today, or give me a call, so that we can get your digestion back on track!
